Guy Gerber releases his debut album “Late Bloomers” on Cocoon Recordings

Posted by admin on May 13th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

cell phone

With the first tracks on “Late Bloomers“, Gerber already makes clear what this is all about. Not only is he mixing House, Techno and Trance like nobody else - he is also producing with accordion sounds and basslines reminding of Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust” (”Unfulfilled”) without any concern and thus showing his multiple influences from Carl Craig via Giorgio Moroder to Jean Michel Jarre.

cell phone

However, this all is “only” the prelude, because the first real climax of the CD is reached from track 5 on with Gerber’s last 12″ for Cocoon “Belly Dancing”, immediately followed by last year’s smash hit “Sea of Sand”, a track which was not missing from the set of any Techno DJ or House DJ in 2006. With “Persona Non Grata”, he proves that he keeps his nerves. For sure, Guy is not the first artist to include some calmer sounds in a Techno or House album, but “Persona Non Grata” is nevertheless surprising. Alex Patterson and The Orb salute from beyond!

“Moody Samba” offers a total contrast, and is thus the next proof for Mr Gerber’s versatility, without ever appearing random-like. Here, Guy Gerber opens another draw of his musical universe and all of a sudden he sounds like a remix of Aphex Twin’s “Analogue Bubblebath”. “2 Birds One Stoned” definitely lives up to its name - weird and energetic, with basslines that remind of the high times of giant Open Air raves in Northern England in the beginning of the Nineties, and which send us back into the times of R&S and “Belgian Bombs”. Gerber again succeeds in keeping his very own handwriting and even working it out more precisely, although rave soundtrack übervater Frank de Wulf peeks around the corner very clearly.

After the first part of the CD with its well-known and expected hits, and the surprises, breathers and re-emerging Techno madness in the second part, Gerber skillfully brings the listener down again with “Planetarium” and “Last Frequency”. Some kind of Panorama Bar mid day feeling with sunbeams falling through the smoky and de-partied room, with dancers dancing to all kind of music between 100 and 160 bpm and are one with themselves and the world around. “Last Frequency” is taking another stab and reminds with its arpeggio lines of the good old Blade Runner soundtrack, only with a shuffled beat underneath, perfectly rounding off Gerber’s “Best-of-Styles-and-Influences”. In case you meet someone next week who completely missed the last 15 years of club history, just give him this CD and within a few moments, he will get a comprehensive impression of what has musically happened on the best “Four-To-The-Floors” around the world. We bow in awe, and we feel with those who don’t understand this album or don’t like it at all.

This review was writen by none other than soul seduction.

Found Him

Posted by admin on May 13th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

cell phone

This song was one of the highlights of the WMC 2007 and it’s easy to understand why. Based on a persistent piano line (but with space for a stunning jazzy piano solo), a bombastic bassline and dancefloor friendly beats together with irresistible vocals by Miss Monique Bingham, “Found Him” has everything to be one of the biggest hits this year…

Hear The Sound

cell phone

To celebrate the notable album ““Hear the Sound: Remixed”, the label has released this 12”, featuring a catchy remix for the title track by Louie Vega. Victor Davies’ vocals and the main original instrumentation fits like a glove in the Latin House vision by LLV. The album also includes great contributions from DJ Kawasaki, Domu, Yam Who? and Atjazz, among others!

Theo Parrish releases the “Sound Sculptures Vol. 1″ album

Posted by admin on May 12th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

cell phoneThe Theo Parrish album lands. It’s essentially the next 3×12″ releases from Sound Signature label bundled together in a very nice gatefold sleeve and, in a similar way to “Natural Aspirations”, features his more jazz orientated material. That’s not to say it’s not Housey because it really is.

On this album you’ll find tracks like ‘Second changes’ or the amazing ‘They say’ (both featuring vocals from Monicablaire) or ‘Soul Control’, that have echoes of work once released under ‘The Rotating Assembly’. Furthermore there’s the hardhitting ‘Synthetic flaem’ very much on a minimal chicago tip, tracks like ‘Galactic Traffic’ & ‘Friskie biscuits’ that have the signature offbeat programming and ‘The rink’ which just screams Detroit soul.

Tracklist:

1 Second Chances

2 Flotation Device

cell phone 3 They Say

4 Second Chances (Instrumental)

5 Friskie Biscuits

6 The Rink

7 Galactic Traffic

8 Soul Control

Tiga’s album ‘Sexor’ gets a re-release with a bonus CD

Posted by admin on May 12th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

cell phone

Tiga is set to release a refreshed and remixed version of the Sexor album with a new and rather special bonus disc, titled ‘Sexor Collector’s Edition‘.

‘Sexor’ was originally released in early 2006, showing Tiga’s inklings for rave, vocal synth-pop and the cover version. The album brought together his older big hitters ‘Louder than a Bomb’ and ‘Pleasure from the Bass’ with newer cuts such as ‘You Gonna Want Me’, his personal homage to Altern8’s ‘Infiltrate 202′ that featured Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters on vocals. There was also an acid cover of Talking Heads ‘Burning Down The House’ and even a version of Nine Inch Nails ‘Down In It’.

Central Energy CD Launch @ The Family, Brisbane

Posted by admin on May 5th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

cell phoneWell didn’t the central energy CD launch start off with a bang! First as per usual, we were graced with Syke and Tydi who absolutely smashed their performance as they do week in, week out. They played classic trance anthems such as “Lift” by Sean Tyas.

Then next up on the DJ decks was Archie, who played some really great fast trance. He used a very interesting technique tonight, that surely got the crowd going! I’m not sure if its his signature sound, but a little twiddling of the equaliser made sure his noises sounded like tiny little water droplets. The sound was something I’ve never quite heard before and I will say that it sounded absolutely awesome! This combined with a hard beat, it sounded quite unique!

Amber Savage was next to prove her title as “queen of hard dance” and she did so with 100%. There’s something about a confident blonde female that gets the guys on the dance floor dancing harder than a weightlifter lifts weights!!! She was really great to watch, an inspiring DJ and certainly lifted the energy in the club for the night. Her really fast tracks and awesome mixing was enough to make me never want to leave!

But unfortunately I had to leave earlier than expected and didn’t get to watch the third musketeer start his set. Baby Gee is a regular on a Friday night but it would have been great to see him show us what his CD is made of. The central energy CD launch was a great night and I’m sure you keen hard dance fans will get a copy of it soon!

Look out for TyDi’s “Late Night Edition” 5 hour jam packed set next week on Friday the 11th. He is launching his new CD and I’m more than sure he will have Brisbane wrapped around his little finger again for another fabulous set.

Review: Kharma 45 - Where’s Your Spirit Man: The Remixes

Posted by admin on May 4th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

cell phoneNorthern Irish quintet Kharma 45 are set to release their as yet untitled debut album later this year, but on May 7th the first single is to be released. The bands cites influences such as The Chemical Brothers, Muse and Oasis. All are evident in the original but you probably wouldn’t pick it in the first round of remixes from My Digital Enemy, Karl G and Tronik Youth.

The MDE is a bass heavy electro house rework featuring the big guitar riff from the original that climaxes into a wall of sound. The solid electro synths keep the track flowing nicely but I can’t shake the feeling something is missing. The Karl G Drum Less Funky remix is closer to trance than electro and has a similar vibe MDE’s work. This version would probably suit more sets but doesn’t quite have the same energy. The Tronik Youth Remix focuses more on vocoder affected vocals than anything else and has a very minimal feel, perhaps a little too minimal.

For fans of the original the My Digital Enemy remix is worth a look. Available May 7th on Warner Bros. Records.
