Digweed returns with the eagerly anticipated third volume in his critically acclaimed “Transitions” series…

cell phone

Transitions Vol.3 finds John delivering a peak-time reflection of his current sound, “Musically speaking, I’ve been shifting through the gears over the series,” he says. “And we’re now approaching top speed. This mix still represents an immediate snapshot of my favourite tunes and producers, but it’s also about that specific energy you get at 3 or 4am at the best clubs or festivals around the world.”

To capture and realise this, John worked a whopping 20 tracks into the album. “Running the tracklist up so high was a conscious decision,” he elaborates, “It allowed me to generate that energy and atmosphere, which I further reinforced by creating exclusive edits.” Infact every track on T3 has been given the magic touch and then, quite literally, continuously layered into the mix; in the overall running time, the passages where there isn’t a mix running are actually shorter than those where they are! It’s an intense ride, which in true Digweed fashion builds over its 78-minute excursion…

The mix kicks off with a track that personifies its special nature, the elusively titled COMA ” coma 1. Moving on, further notable highlights from the broad musical spectrum include the innovative use of Lawrence’s ‘Along The Wire’, broken down and part-used throughout its neighbours, Sweet N Candy and Einzelkind; the Dusty Kid / Aldo Kadiz mash-up; ‘Begun The End Has’ from Harthouse regular Joel Mull; the incredible Josh Wink remix of Someone Else and Gui Boratto’s emotive interpretation of Adam Freeland’s latest.

Finally, the finished versions of T3 will also feature a second disc containing a brand new, 25-minute track from the minds of John and Nick Muir, “ We started on it earlier in the year”, says Digweed, “And it quite literally grew (and grew!) from there. It reached a point where it seemed better suited to an album, so hit upon the idea of marrying it with T3 as a way of giving something back to our fans.”

There’s little question Transitions Vol.3 is John Digweed at his relentlessly, innovative best.

A community driven approach to music composing : Renoise 1.8 is out now!

Posted by admin on July 30th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

cell phone

Renoise has a unique bottom-up approach to music making. With its vertical timeline and streamlined interface, Renoise lets you have direct control over the composition.  The community is strongly involved in the development of Renoise. Many features can be traced back to suggestions on the forum. The result is a powerful and reliable music production application the way you want it.

Features:

Interface

Quick. That sums it up pretty much. Once you get rolling with the keyboard shortcuts, there is no stopping you. And hey, there are no annoying floating windows. Every widget stays where it belongs.

Multi Platform

Renoise runs on Windows and Mac OS X. If you want to use both OS’es, that is possible too! No need to register a separate copy.

MIDI

Connect Renoise to hardware synths or VST instruments to send and receive notes and controllers changes. Sync Renoise in either master or slave mode.

cell phone

VST Instruments and Effects

VST provides you a vast array of effects and synths. With Renoise all that is within reach. Why not map an external MIDI controller to a VSTi through the VSTiAutomate Device and start tweaking for real?

Low latency audio with Multi-I/O ASIO

Soundcards with ASIO benefit from low audio latency and the ability to route individual tracks through any available hardware channel.

Integrated Sampler

Edit and playback samples with the Sample Editor. Because really, why should you let yourself be distracted by switching back and forth to external editors?

cell phone

External Audio Recording

You can record your sound card’s line-in in the Sample Editor. Capture perfectly synched or manually triggered external audio directly into a sample slot. Or route the external signal through the Line-In Device into the DSP Chain.

Instrument Editor

Turn VST Instruments into CPU-friendly multi-sample Instruments with the Instrument Editor.

Mixer

Renoise’s flexible answer to the traditional mixer. Also doubles as an interface for the DSP Chain.

Built-in DSP Effects

Reverb, delay, compressor, distortion, flanger, phaser, EQ. Use as many of them as you like - or your pc can handle.

Track routing

The Send and Master tracks pave the way for unique routing options. Whether you route a single channel or 50 channels to a Send track full of effects, your pc’s CPU will hardly know the difference.

cell phone

Automation

Draw curves to tell effects and instruments how their parameters should change during playback.

Rendering to WAV

Export your songs to WAV. Up to 32-bit, 96 kHz, with either cubic or sinc interpolation. Renoise can also save the separate tracks and patterns.

CD2 takes a slightly darker path with pitched back electro, breaks and house from Loco Dice, Gui Borrato and Trentemoller, think DC10 at 5AM but all back to mine! CD3 is full of exclusive unreleased ambient tracks by the future heroes of electronica like Sweden’s Thomas Sagstad, Holland’s Eelke Kleijn, Australia’s Lostep and Canada’s Sissy.

With a multiple of formats, the std 3CD mixed version (far from standard!), the 4CD unmixed version, perfect for CD/Laptop DJs or music lovers, 2 vinyl E.P.s for the old school and a digital version for the “1-click” generation this eclectic mix makes it anytime music and definitely a soundtrack to the summer….see you on the beach/bbq/rainy seafront deckchair/house party…..

Posted by admin on July 26th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

Australia’s biggest dance music poll is open once again for voting. There are some great prizes on offer including a complete Pioneer DJ package. While the results don’t necessarily determine the future success or failure of a particular DJ, they do play a part in determining bookings, and if it’s one thing Australian dance music events need, it’s diversity in their line-ups.

If you stuck for ideas may I suggest our resident DJ Syke, or local favourite Tydi.

Audioriver 2007: More Than Just Audio

Posted by admin on July 22nd, 2007 under Club Dance Music

cell phoneAudioriver Festival won‘t just be showcasing the best upfront electronic music has to offer, but it will also pay homage to other forms of art. During last year’s edition, a special cinema was set up in which the works of students from the world renowned film school in Lodz were screened. Audioriver 2007 was from the very beginning meant to be bigger and better than its predecessor, which is why the festival cinema will also have a lot more on offer. And to make sure this is the case, the organizers have asked Chlodna 25, the ‘Best Venue of 2006‘ according to a leading Polish daily, to lend a helping hand.

Chlodna is one of the most culturally, politically and socially active places in Poland’s capital city. In a short period of time, it has managed to attract its share of regular frequenters thanks to the unfettered and comfortable atmosphere and the wide spectrum of nights it puts on. Poetry slams, photoblog festivals, classical music and jazz concerts, meetings with social activists, discussion panels, screenings of films and presentations of literature are just some of the types of events which are held at the venue on a regular basis.

„Chlodna 25’s presence at the festival will ensure the highest quality of all the events not associated with music. We were responsible for the musical aspect and we wanted to leave the cinema to be managed by professionals in their respected field. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to get in touch with the best, and we will be releasing the itinerary very soon“ - says Lukasz Napora, Audioriver Festival Spokesperson.

Posted by admin on July 22nd, 2007 under Club Dance Music

Now they invite you to sample their “Art Of Chill”, a 2 CD set that welcomes aficionados of downtempo, and encompasses the influential records both old and new that define the genre. Soma Recs. release a new album titled “Soma Coma”

Posted by admin on July 19th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

cell phone

Glasgow’s Soma Records are generally known for their futuristic techno and underground house. But that’s not the full story, as their latest compilation, ‘Soma Coma’ ” out now ” demonstrates.

Focusing on downbeat, electronica and ambience, with a smidgeon of Detroit techno and hip-hop for good measure, ‘Soma Coma’ compiles tracks for the head rather than the feet. Label head honchos Slam contribute two tracks, one a more ambient effort (‘This Is’), and the second, ‘Bright Lights Fading’, a neon-lit cyborg soul missive, augmented by the lush larynx of Billie Ray Martin.

Alex Smoke’s melancholic ‘Don’t See the Point’ is reshaped by connoisseur of all things deep, Henrik Schwarz, who transforms the track into a weird but devastating amalgam of subtle dancehall bounce and abstract jazz piano, before taking off into four/four territory. The result is a seriously lush dose of goodness that you need in your life.

cell phone

The finest moment is perhaps Silicone Soul’s ‘Burning Sands’, an impossibly dramatic, filmic panorama of smouldering electroid atmospherics and subtle electric guitar. Evoking the old school computer game soundtrack ‘Shadowrun’, (for all you geeks out there!), this is epic material.

Maas’ ‘Look At Me Now, Falling’ gets the remix treatment from Mass Zoyd + Prairie, who bring the original into lazy, psyche funk territory, all humping bass and Rhodes keyboard licks. The whole compilation stands as one of the very best collections of this kind of music ” like a modern version of Warp’s ‘Artificial Intelligence’ series but with its own cohesive identity. Highly recommended.
