UK dubstepper Burial announces the release of his second album titled “Untrue”

Posted by admin on October 31st, 2007 under Club Dance Music

Club Dance

After the surprise success of his self-titled, low-key debut on Hyperdub , Burial returns with an eagerly awaited follow up album, ‘Untrue’. The new record is weird soul music, hypersoul, lovingly processing spectral female voices into vaporised R&B and smudged 2step garage. Voices are blurred, smeared, pitched up, pitched down and pitch bent until their content becomes irrelevant and they whisper their saccharin sweet nothings into the void.

UNTRUE continues with the first album’s crackle drenched yearning and bustling syncopations haunted by the ghosts of rave, but also reveals some new Burial treats with a more glowing, upbeat energy. UNTRUE kicks off with the skittering 2step syncopations and vocal science of ‘Archangel’, ‘Near Dark’ and ‘Ghost Hardware’, before descending into a space of radiant divas and ambience.

While Burial’s first album was humid, suffocating and unrelentingly sad, UNTRUE is less sunless. Many of the tracks are so sweet, they become toxic, underscored by the almost geological rumbles of growling basslines. Whereas the mood of Burial’s first album was overpoweringly melancholy, its now better described as a downcast euphoria typified by the epic, muted optimism of the album’s last track ‘Raver’. Forget central heating. The radioactivity of this album is all that you’ll need to keep you warm this winter.

Dominik Eulberg is back with yet another album entitled “Bionik” released on Cocoon Recs.

Posted by admin on October 25th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

 Club Dance

After his highly successful Heimische Gefilde album, released on Germany’s acclaimed Traum Schallplatten, Dominik Eulberg is back with yet another album entitled Bionik, this time slated for release on another major German label: Sven Vaeths cocoon imprint. To avoid any confusion, the title is not related to his earlier single release that bears the same name, as it is nowhere to be found on the actual album.

Dominik Eulberg (1978) has become a household name in intelligent German techno, and is known for his lush and melodic cuts, which often feature bird/nature samples. By no means coincidental, as Dominik doubles as a park ranger on his beloved home ground, Germany’s beautiful Westerwald, when he is not rocking it in the clubs.

Having seen the previous success recipe for his first album, the latest output from Dominik’s lair (the photo’s of which have recently circulated on the Internet) marks no exception to the rule. Among the ten new tracks, there are several club savvy cuts alongside some melodic gems that reflect his signature subtlety, always characterised by his rather idiosyncratic choice of long German titles that often refer to one of his favourite animals. See for yourself, and get ahold of a German dictionary to find out what he actually means with them.

Tracklist:

1. Der Traum vom Fliegen

2. Freche Früchte

3. Libellenwellen

4. Löwenzahn-Luftwaffe

5. Autopfoten

6. Haifischflügel

7. Rückenschwimmzipper

8. Lotuseffekt

9. Bienenstich

10. Rattenscharf

Bionik’ is released on Cocoon recordings at the end of November 2007, both as vinyl and on compact disc

Pioneer announces “SVM-1000″ the first 4 Channel Audio & Video Mixer

Posted by admin on October 25th, 2007 under Club Dance Music

Club Dance

Pioneer is introducing the SVM-1000, an audio and video mixer that finally allows DJs to unlock their true AV potential, and further blur the boundaries between DJs and VJs.

Pioneer basically took their DJM-800 mixer, broke it in half, stuck a huge color 11 inch touchscreen in the middle and welded the whole thing together. The SVM-1000 allows DJs to mix both audio and video elements into their performance in perfect sync. Pioneer claims that even audio-only DJs can easily add visuals synced to the music from the SVM-1000’s built-in visualizer capability.

Pioneer has answered the question that many DJs/VJs have posed since they introduced their revolutionary DVJ-X1s a couple of years ago. As the world’s first DVD deck, which opened up VJing to DJs, there was lack of easy-to-use AV mixer solutions on the market. DJs and VJs had to use separate mixers to blend sound and vision. Now the SVM-1000 has the power and technology to change all that by working perfectly in both audio and AV set-ups. Complete with LCD touch panel, an impressive range of effects and 96 kHz/ 24-bit studio sound quality, the MIDI assignable SVM-1000 could be the answer to a number of mixologist dreams.

Features:

• World’s first mixer for 4-channel audio and video

• Multiple Video Blending Technology, allows the 4-channel mixer to sync audio and video mixing

• SVM-1000’s cross fader is capable of various effects such as FADE, WIPE and CHROMA-KEY

• AV Effects

• JPEG Viewer Function

• Beat sync’d text effects

• AV Touch Effects

• AV Beat Effects

Club Dance

Within the SVM-1000’s 11-inch LCD touch panel is an AV Effect section, which enables the synchronization of audio effects and video effects. This function is capable of 30 patterns of effects on the audio and/or visual side, meaning that you can create countless combinations of effects. Each effect can be selected via an animated icon button for an easier (visual) understanding of the effect, thereby allowing DJs to instantly select the best effect for their performance.

1. AV Beat Effect: Automatically detects the tempo (BPM = Beat Per Minute) of the music and affects both audio and video in time with the beat.

There are 12 patterns of Beat Effects: DELAY, ECHO, PAN, TRANS, FILTER, FLANGER, PHASER, REVERB, ROBOT, CHORUS, ROLL and REV ROLL. Indeed, users are fully armed on the effects front as each effect allows access to several more effects, including INVERSE, EDGE and HUE.

2. AV Touch Effect: Enables a more sensuous use of effects because it allows users to touch and affect the visuals directly, as they appear on the panel. The mixer is loaded with 12 patterns of Touch Effects: RIPPLE, LENS, SPOT, RADIATION, CUBE, BLOCK, KALEIDO, TWIST, ZOOM, DROP, BLUR and DISTORTION.

3. Text Effects: Automatically detects the tempo of the track and displays text messages in sync with the beat. The SVM-1000 is equipped with 6 patterns of Text Effects: RANDOM, ZOOM, BLOCK, ROTATION, CRUSH and SLIDE. Messages are inputted via the touch screen’s built-in keyboard, but it is also possible to use an external USB keyboard.

The SVM-1000 achieves quality sound through its digital sampling system. Digitized by a high quality 96 kHz/ 24-bit sound A/D converter, the analog signal input passes through the shortest signal route to reach the digital mixing stage. The mixing is then carried out by 32-bit DSP (Digital Signal Processing) ” without any deterioration of the sound quality. The mixer also sports a rigid chassis for minimizing unnecessary vibration and maximizing sound quality, while a dual-shield structure eliminates digital noise and a high performance power section boosts bass for a clear and powerful club sound. The SVM-1000 furthermore incorporates a high performance integrated video circuit. The video signal’s input through the high performance ADC is processed with 600 MHz/32-bit/4800 MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second = 1 million command executions per minute) to ensure full dynamic rage and minimise unnecessary noise. This results in accurate, high quality images ” even when visual effects are used.

Pioneer claims the SVM-1000 boasts a far more advanced and solid design when compared to standard DJ mixers. With the focus on form, the perspective-changing SVM-1000 has been created to challenge traditional views of DJ mixers. To the rear, as seen from the dancefloor, the SVM-1000 features an illuminated display utilizing diffused light. Elsewhere it incorporates a Channel Symmetric Layout and a tantalisingly tangible 11-inch LCD touch panel. The panel is designed for a direct and dynamic performance with low latency while using the mixer’s effects, and the symmetrical layout of the channel section is shaped for the slickest of shows. The side panels also come away allowing the mixer to be 19” rack mounted if required.

DJ/VJ performance functions:

• Video Trim: Allows you to adjust the brightness of input video in each channel.

• Video EQ: Allows you to assign video parameters, like RGB, CONTRAST, HUE and SATURATION to EQ, and to synchronise sound equalisers and video control.

• AV Sync: Allows you to switch between sound and video with synchronous and separate control.

• Fader Start: Connect up Pioneer’s DVJ players (DVJ-X1s/DVJ-1000s) with a control cable and sliding the cross fader or channel faders can start playback.

• Fully Assignable MIDI Function: Allows you to control external MIDI equipment, such as EFX and DJ/VJ application software.

• Video Monitor Select: Allows you to select the type of video monitor output: MASTER, CHANNEL, MASTER AND CHANNEL or MIRROR OF MASTER.

• Talk Over: Automatically lowers track volume so the DJ or an MC can talk over the track.

• Peak Level Meter: Allows you to check the peak level of the input sound immediately at each channel.

• Fader Curve Adjust: Allows you to change the cross fader/channel fader curve.

Three-time Grammy nominated Kenny Dope, one of the most prolific artists of the modern music age, has been entertaining and astounding the masses alike with his fusion of house, hip-hop, Latin, jazz, soul, and broken beats. Known as a living encyclopedia of beats, Kenny Dope is a purveyor of sonic masterpieces. Kenny Dope grew up in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park and by the early eighties he was absorbing the hip hop beats that were being played at the local street parties. Along with his partner, Mike Delgado, Kenny organised a series of neighbourhood parties under the Masters at Work alias, and these were regularly attended by Brooklyn hero Todd Terry. In 1990 after an introduction by Terry, Kenny and DJ “Little Louie” Vega immediately hit it off and began a creative partnership appropriately dubbed Masters At Work. As the MAW sound became more pervasive in clubs, they became more sought after by artists and labels, eventually remixing and producing artists such as R. Kelly, Janet Jackson, Daft Punk, Barbara Tucker, India, Luther Vandross, BeBe Winans, George Benson and many, many more. Kenny Dope’s breakthrough as a solo artist came with the recording of the breathtaking Bucketheads album in 1995. A track called “The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)” was the standout track, and the song was an instant sensation on the underground and before long he was gate-crashing the European pop charts with his first major hit. Following the success of the Bucketheads album, Kenny took a break from his solo career, and focused on his collaborative work with Vega. The Nuyorican Soul album marked a particularly important moment, and had Kenny Dope’s unerringly creative imprint written all over it. Kenny was behind every aspect of the album’s creation, and tracks such as “Nautilus” were hand-picked by the man himself. The album’s release marked Kenny Dope’s transition into one of America’s most important contemporary producers. For the last decade Kenny Dope has had his hands full releasing literally thousands of tracks, remixing hundreds of singles, and globe trotting to DJ all over the world. With his long-established reputation as a DJ extraordinaire, Kenny showcases a melting pot of house, jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop while keeping the show colourful, energetic and soulful. While production and touring account for most of his time, Kenny has also established Kay-Dee Records with Scottish funk DJ legend Keb Darge. Kay-Dee is the imprint for rare reissued classic funk records. Kay-Dee will also be the label that Kenny will use to featuring up and coming bands as well. Whether its sitting behind the control board, playing to his followers, or searching for the next great re-release classic, the beat master will continue to shine as the master at work.

Karizma’s musical career started with him djing at age 13, doing various fashion shows and college parties, later on he landed a radio show on Baltimore’s college radio station WEAA, playing hip hop. at the same time playing at various clubs around the city, with an obvious love for house music. He would often bump into Dj Spen and bug him for advice, As fate would have it Spen and Karizma would work together at radio station V103. This prompted the two to work together on his 1st Jasper Street Company album project. Karizma contributed the song E.B.W.2.R.T.W(Everybody wants 2 rule the world) and programmed drums on the track “Temptation”. After this Spen&Karizma worked on Kim English “Tomorrow”, Mary J Blige “Beautiful”, Kenny Bobien “Let Me Show You” and SuSu Bobien’s “Thank You” . The rest is history… Spen and Karizma (now with Basement Boys productions), went on to remix Everything But The Girl, Amira, Lenny Kravitz, Ann Nesby, Ron Carroll, Roy Ayers, Boris Dlugosh, Bob Sinclar, Kathy Brown, Jocelyn Brown, Ministers De La Funk, just to name a few. It was also in these remixes Karizma developed the “Deepah Dubs” and “Deepah Ones” moniker. Flashing forward …after a healthy career of remixes and productions, Karizma struck out on his own a formed Kohesive Productions. His first production “Samma Ganni” was released on Basement boys imprint “Elephunk”. Many of his productions have championed the likes of Louie Vega, Simon Dunmore, Dj Spinna, Marques Wyatt, Tony Humphries, Gilles Peterson, and many more. Karizma is also an accomplished international dj, one of the most innovative on the scene.

Abicah Soul a.k.a. DJ Stax is on a roll at the momment. His productions and remixes on labels like Objektivity, Waako, Moods&Grooves, Jellybean Soul, Eargasmic and Symple Sound have created a solid legion of fans and definitely made him one of most respected artists in the house music scene. Let’s try to know a little more about him.

.Could you tell us how you got into djing / producing and about your early career?.

It started in circa 1983 for me as a dj. I started my kraft in producing in 85/86, myself and Glenn Underground… .

What’s your music background? Which artists have influenced you the most?
.

Soul, Afrobeat, Jazz… just good music. Influences come from Gil Scott-Heron, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, Lonnie Liston Smith, Mandrill, Chick Corea; the list goes on and on. .

Nowadays we see more and more deep/soulful house producers incorporating techy elements in their tracks. What do you think about this new musical direction? .

In fact, I love it. You know, music is a feeling so its about being creative, you still can be open to different genre and give and edge and still have soul..

We also see Electro and 80’s sound influencing many House productions. Do you think that, in order to move on in house music, producers have to always look back?
.

No, not at all. House will be here forever; the market changes but seems to keep a float. .

You have your own record label, Abicah Soul Records. What’s the concept behind it? Do you have any specific target?
.

No, just good music. But I plan to get a little experimental so stay tuned!

.

We know you have an album ready to be released. Can you disclose some information about it? . It wil be hot, that’s all I got to say! Can’t leak anything but I hope the masses enjoy it. Well, I will say I got some hitters on it….————————————.Legal name: Marcel Davis

Fav. artists at the moment: Deetron, Osunlade, Telepopmusik, Ane Brun, myself(lol)

Fav. songs at the moment: too many to be mentioned.

Your own favourite production: right now a Seu Jorge remix called Cotidiano; it’s brazilian hooooooot. Your own favourite remix: I like well my remix of “noize” by U.P.Z.. This dope record will be out on objektivity next month.
