Of the dozens of music-production software titles currently available, Ableton Live is unique. With its roots in live performance, it presents the user with a fluid, flexible interface that often makes it feel more musical instrument than recording studio. Still, version 5 excelled at both performance and recording, with comprehensive MIDI/audio editing and mixing built around its live performance toolset. Version 6 continues in this vein, with a range of new features on top of an otherwise untouched user interface.

Ableton is proud to announce the release of Live 6 LE, a new member of the Ableton product line that makes Live’s unique, inspiring workflow available to beginning and hobbyist musicians. Built on the same fundamental concepts as Live 6, the LE version gives musicians hassle-free access to tools that will help shape their musical ideas into creative works.

Here is the principle behind each view:

Session View

Live’s Session View acts as a musical sketch and launch pad, encouraging you to try out new ideas and improvise freely. Each cell in the Session View grid can hold a loop, recording, MIDI file, complete song or any other musical element. These ideas can be recorded on the fly or dragged in from the Browser, combined and played in any order you wish.

Arrangement View

The Arrangement View offers a timeline-based approach for traditional recording, MIDI sequencing, arranging, editing and other musical production tasks. And when you improvise in the Session View, all of your actions can be recorded into the Arrangement View, where they can be edited and perfected whenever you like.
